Li Auto Establishes First Overseas Manufacturing Base in KazakhstanKazakhstan will host Li Auto’s first overseas complete vehicle manufacturing plant, which will be located at the Allur Automotive Factory in the Kostanay Region.Per the project plan, the facility will produce three Li Auto models: the L6, L8 and L9. This initiative marks a new chapter in Kazakhstan’s automotive industry development, bringing cutting-edge technologies including new energy vehicles, intelligent control systems and digital manufacturing to the local production base.Prior to finalizing local manufacturing plans, a specialist team from Li Auto conducted a comprehensive assessment of the Allur plant. The team systematically audited its production lines, equipment, manufacturing workflows, quality management systems, and the expertise of its engineering and production workforce.The thorough evaluation confirmed Allur as Li Auto’s first overseas production hub. Key factors behind its selection include its proven track record of delivering international automotive joint ventures, sophisticated production management frameworks, robust engineering capabilities, and a demonstrated capacity for stable mass production that meets global automaker standards.Nestor Wu, Managing Director of International Business at Li Auto, spoke at the press conference held for the signing of the bilateral cooperation agreement. He stated that the company carried out rigorous due diligence when selecting its inaugural overseas partner. Kazakhstan will be the first country outside China to manufacture Li Auto vehicles, while Allur becomes the world’s first authorized partner to mass-produce complete Li Auto vehicles at its own manufacturing facility. This represents a landmark milestone in Li Auto’s global expansion and cross-border collaboration within the international automotive sector.Li Auto builds its vehicles on a state-of-the-art technical platform integrating electric drive systems, power batteries, intelligent electronic architectures, advanced driver-assistance systems and artificial intelligence technologies. The brand’s core technological hallmark lies in its Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain. Under this setup, electric motors power the wheels, while the internal combustion engine functions solely as a generator to extend driving range. This architecture enables daily zero-emission all-electric commutes with reduced fuel consumption and emissions, while eliminating range anxiety for long-distance travel. To support localized Li Auto production, the Allur factory will roll out upgraded manufacturing processes, boosting its capabilities in electronic system calibration, equipment parameter tuning, and quality control for high-tech components. Arghulan Maikanov, Production Executive Director at Allur, commented that the factory boasts well-established production infrastructure, extensive experience executing international automotive projects, and a professional workforce skilled in advanced automotive technologies. Moving forward, the plant will guarantee that all Li Auto vehicles manufactured in Kazakhstan fully comply with the brand’s stringent global quality benchmarks. At present, the Allur factory assembles models for multiple automotive brands, including Kia, Chevrolet, JAC, Jetour, Škoda, Geely Galaxy, MG, Soueast and GAC. At the end of 2025, the plant launched production of the Geely Galaxy EX5 EM-i, the first vehicle equipped with a new energy powertrain to be manufactured within Kazakhstan.
