Function
1. Provides a fixed pivot and pivot point: The brake shoe pin, serving as the rotation center of the brake shoe, passes through the fixing hole in the brake backing plate and the shoe lug hole, forming a reliable mechanical pivot. When the brake is applied, the shoe expands outward around this pin, swinging like a lever to ensure the friction lining is evenly pressed against the inner wall of the brake drum.
2. Bears and transmits braking force: During braking, the enormous tangential and normal forces generated by the friction between the shoe and the drum act directly on the pin. This pin acts as an "anchor point," firmly anchoring these forces to the brake backing plate, preventing the shoe from rotating with the drum or dislodging. Especially during forward braking, a self-servoing effect is created, further amplifying the braking force through friction.
