Function

It is responsible for real-time monitoring of two key parameters of the intake system:
1. Pressure: Measures the air pressure entering the engine, especially the boost pressure in turbocharged engines. If the pressure sensor reading is too low, the ECU will mistakenly assume that the engine is not turbocharged, leading to insufficient fuel injection and a decrease in engine power; if the reading is too high, it may trigger engine overpressure protection or even damage the turbocharger.

2. Temperature: This measures the temperature of the air entering the engine. Cold air is denser and requires relatively less fuel; hot air is less dense and requires relatively more fuel. If the temperature sensor fails, the ECU cannot correctly compensate for the effect of temperature on fuel injection, which may lead to difficulty starting the engine when cold or a significant increase in fuel consumption when the engine is cold.

Technical Working Principle

1. Pressure changes are sensed by measuring changes in internal capacitance. Increased pressure causes the diaphragm inside the sensor to deform, resulting in a change in capacitance. Alternatively, the piezoelectric effect, where a voltage is generated when a piezoelectric material is subjected to force, can be used to sense pressure changes.
2. It has a built-in thermistor, whose resistance changes with temperature. The ECU calculates the temperature by reading the resistance value.

1. Casing: Made of stainless steel or galvanized steel. The reason is that the intake system contains a large amount of water vapor (especially near the turbocharger exhaust pipe), and ordinary steel is prone to rust, leading to corrosion of the metal inside the sensor. Galvanized or stainless steel effectively prevents oxidation.
2. Sensing element: The internal piezoelectric ceramic or semiconductor element has extremely high precision and can detect minute pressure changes.

3. Symptoms: The engine suddenly loses power when climbing hills or at high speeds (because the ECU misinterprets the pressure as too high and cuts off the fuel supply), or the engine has difficulty starting in cold weather.
