FUNCTION
1. Exhaust Gas Removal: Opening during the exhaust stroke of the engine's four-stroke cycle, the high-temperature, high-pressure exhaust gas from the cylinder is expelled, making room for the next intake stroke and ensuring continuous, efficient engine operation.
2. Maintaining Cylinder Pressure and Combustion Efficiency: Precisely controlling the timing and opening of the exhaust valve helps achieve optimal residual exhaust gas volume in the cylinder, optimizing the combustion process, improving power output, reducing fuel consumption, and decreasing emissions.
3. Sealing High Cylinder Pressure: When closed during the compression and power strokes, the valve fits tightly against the valve seat, withstanding the high cylinder pressure, preventing gas leakage, and ensuring stable compression ratio and combustion pressure.
4. High Temperature, High Pressure, and Corrosion Resistance: The exhaust valve directly contacts high-temperature exhaust gas and corrosive gases. Nitriding treatment or high-temperature alloy materials maintain the valve surface hardness, sealing performance, and resistance to ablation, preventing valve surface burning, denting, or deformation.
5. Works in conjunction with the valve mechanism: It works with valve springs, valve guides, valve seats, rocker arms, camshafts, etc., and is driven by the camshaft to open/close at a time to achieve engine valve timing control.
Working Principle
Closed State (Compression): The valve spring force + cylinder pressure keeps the exhaust valve tightly against the valve seat, forming a hermetically tight seal. This prevents the air-fuel mixture/combustion gas from leaking into the exhaust manifold and ensures normal cylinder pressure accumulation.
Open State (Exhaust Stroke): The camshaft pushes the rocker arm → the valve stem depresses → overcoming the spring force → the exhaust valve opens. Exhaust gases are then expelled from the cylinder by the upward-moving piston.
Installation location: The exhaust valves are installed on the exhaust port side of the cylinder head (2 per cylinder, 12 in total). Above the combustion chamber of the cylinder head, the exhaust valve disc faces the combustion chamber, the valve stem is inserted into the valve guide, and the end of the valve stem engages with the valve spring seat and valve lock clip.
