Primary Function

Installed at the connection point between the front axle half-shaft and the axle housing tube on all-wheel-drive trucks, it serves to retain gear oil within the front axle's final drive unit while preventing the ingress of external moisture, mud, and dust into the final drive and differential assemblies; this ensures proper lubrication for the drivetrain components and prevents premature gear wear.

Installation Location
1. Located at the ends of the truck's front axle (outboard of the main final drive housing). There is one on each side, symmetrically positioned and fitted into the inner bore of the axle housing. The inner axle shaft of the all-wheel-drive front axle passes through the center hole of this oil seal.
2. Adjacent components: The inner side of the oil seal faces the differential gear oil, while the outer side faces the front wheel steering knuckle assembly and the universal joint (cross-type or constant-velocity joint).

On-site Maintenance and Installation Tips
1. Oil Leakage Inspection: If oil spray or accumulation is observed on the inner side of the front wheel, the steering knuckle, or the edge of the front axle housing, it is usually caused by the aging of the axle shaft oil seal's rubber or damage from grit and debris. The seal should be replaced promptly to prevent the front axle gear oil from leaking out completely, which could cause the differential to burn out.
2. Installation of Composite-Type Seals: This component features a COMBI composite seal design (incorporating multiple dust-exclusion lips and an integrated wear sleeve). It must be installed using specialized tooling; striking the edge of the seal directly with a hammer is strictly prohibited. Doing so can easily deform the seal's metal skeleton or dislodge the spring, resulting in immediate leakage upon installation.
